Heroes to be Celebrated at Indiana Welcome Center December 7

Special event welcomes first responders, military and their families

The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority will host Holiday for Heroes on Thursday, December 7 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Holiday for Heroes is open to the families of all fire, police, EMS, military and Hoosier Helpers as a “thank you” for their service and dedication to the community and country.

Light refreshments will be served and photos with Santa will be free to families of active and retired military, veterans, fire, police, EMS and Hoosier Helpers. Guests are encouraged to book an appointment online at www.AChristmasStoryComesHome.com

Stations for writing letters to Santa or color a picture to military troops overseas will be available. Attendees will also be able to decorate kids’ holiday crafts.

To participate in the Holiday for Heroes event, please bring your police, fire, EMS, military or Hoosier Helper ID to the Indiana Welcome Center, which is located at the intersection of I-80/94 and Kennedy Avenue South in Hammond.

“Holiday for Heroes is an event that allows us to give back to the men and women that are making the ultimate sacrifice for our country and for our communities. It is an honor for us to be able to host this special day to show our appreciation and to make their holiday a little brighter,” said David Uran, President/CEO.

The A Christmas Story Comes Home exhibit, which is presented in partnership with Warner Bros. Consumer Products, will run through December 30. The exhibit features six animatronic scenes from Warner Bros. holiday Film; A Christmas Story. A bronze statue of Flick, with his tongue permanently “stuck” to a flagpole can also be viewed outside of the Indiana Welcome Center.
