La Casa de Amistad Receives $15,000 Grant from Comcast to Support Digital Skills Training in Michiana

Comcast donates 25 laptops to graduates of digital education program

Comcast today announced it has awarded a $15,000 grant to La Casa de Amistad, a South Bend-based community organization providing educational, cultural, and advocacy services to the Latino community within Michiana. Comcast’s grant supports La Casa de Amistad’s bilingual digital assistance program, which provides adults with general computer assistance ranging from online job applications to resume building.

Comcast also announced the donation of 25 laptops to recent graduates of La Casa de Amistad’s digital education program to support their digital journey.

“Bridging the digital divide includes equipping community members with the digital skills they need to navigate and thrive in our ever-connected world,” said Grace Hong Duffin, Regional Vice President of External and Government Affairs. “Digital literacy is no longer an advantage in our society, but a prerequisite to participating in everyday life. Comcast is proud to continue its partnership with La Casa De Amistad and supports its mission of empowering the Latino community in Michiana.”

The 2024 grant is the second consecutive year in which Comcast has contributed to La Casa de Amistad’s digital assistance program, after awarding the organization with a $10,000 grant and 25-laptop donation in 2023.

“Comcast’s support will allow us to expand our digital skill training programs to more adults in South Bend and across Michiana,” said Juan Constantino, Chief Executive Officer of La Casa de Amistad. “Graduates of our digital assistance program leave with a skillset that allows them to enter our digital world, such as being able to access their child’s school portal and communicate with their teachers. We appreciate Comcast’s continued partnership in bridging the digital divide in Michiana.”

The grant and laptop donations are part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity and help create a future of unlimited possibilities.
