A celebration of Christmas begins in Portage on Saturday, December 1st at Willowcreek Middle School. This event will benefit the Marine Corps Toys for Tots. From 11 am – 3 pm, families will be able to enjoy FREE activities and FREE pictures with Santa, while enjoying local children’s choirs & orchestras. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy or a cash donation that will benefit area children with toys for the holiday.
Thanks to local businesses purchasing placemat ads, the Kiwanis Club of Portage was able to purchase dictionaries for every 3rd grader in the Portage Township Schools. The club has given the personalized dictionaries for the past 6 years. This year they donated over 600.
Kiwanis will be serving chili, hot dogs, baked potatoes and more at the event. Most items are $1 and all profits will go to Toys for Tots.
At the conclusion of the event, Santa will lead the City of Portage Christmas Parade from Willowcreek Middle School to Gilbert Park. The tree lighting ceremony will be held at the park along with some entertainment and hot chocolate. This is a fantastic way to start the Christmas season with Santa and enjoy the spirit of giving.
