On the morning of March 23, 2013, local running put the La Porte County Family YMCA Run into the history books with another beautiful day for their 10th annual 10k and 5k. Proceeds from this event will go to help fund the YMCA’s Scholarship Campaign.
“As long as the sun is shining, it’s good,” Lisa Kelly said. “It’s comfortable out.”
Saturday’s event brought in over 400 participants in many age groups. The course began near the Stone Lake Beach, past Pine Lake, then it lead runners through all the scenic paths near the park, and then ended back in to Soldier’s Memorial Park.
“As a little kid I use to go to Stone Lake all the time and it has dramatically changed and it’s very beautiful.” Nick Dvorscak explained with a smile on his face. “This race is one of my two favorites!”
The 10K for this event is another Calumet Region Striders Gold Cup Series race. Awards were presented in the following groups: top overall male and female finisher, top overall Masters (over age 40) male and female finisher in both races, top three male and female finishers in each age group.
“Just came out with my kids to have a little family fun,” Mark Wolfe said. “Hiler Industries sponsored us for this event to better our health.”
