Towle Youth Theater Ensemble Presents Hilarious Comedy

Laughing-StockThe Towle Theater is elated to announce the continuation of their blossoming education department, the Towle Youth Theater Ensemble with The Laughing Stock. The young performers will take to the stage on Apr. 5-6, 13 at 8 p.m.

Laughing Stock, written by Charles Morey, is a comically embellished representation of backstage charades and allows the audience a sneak peek into the wacky world of the theatre. The production is set in The Playhouse, a New England summer theatre. When The Playhouse schedules an ambitious season packed full with Dracula, Hamlet and Charley's Aunt, comic mayhem arises. The young actors exaggerate these endeavors in the well-intentioned, but overly zealous company with outrageous auditions and ego-driven rehearsals. The Laughing Stock wraps up with the opening nights gone disastrously awry to the elation of a great play perfectly executed and reminiscing of the season’s close. Tickets are $10.

The Towle is holding an encore showing of The Laughing Stock in conjunction with the Hammond Rotary on Thursday, April 11 at 7 p.m. Tickets for this event are $50. This is a fundraiser for the Catherine McAuley Clinic in Hammond.

Funds raised will help the clinic’s volunteer staff members provide medical and referral services with low cost to Northwest Indiana residents in need. Refreshments are included in the ticket price. A cash bar and silent auction will also be present the night of the event.

The concept behind The Towle Youth Theater Ensemble is to allow the youth participation in theater production, but not necessarily a role in each show presented. With the diverse range of talent selected to be in TYTE, the Ensemble is cast from on-stage, technical, administrative and marketing duties as appropriate. The overall mission is to build a team of theater artists and leaders, not just actors. It is the goal of this program to encourage participation in the overall process of creating theater, not just being in a particular show. The Towle staff believes that this process will bring more value to the participants, to their creative process and ultimately to each production. The Towle holds auditions twice a year and will be seeking enthusiastic students with the most drive, dedication and commitment to the Ensemble as a whole.

The Towle Theater is located in historic downtown Hammond at 5205 Hohman Avenue. Free, well-lit, secured parking is available off of Fayette Street only steps away from the back entrance or in the newly completed parking lot directly across the street from the theater on Hohman Avenue.
