Each week we will be bringing you 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana over the weekend, so you are never without something to do! This weekend an art exhibit opening, a food event, a disc golf tournament, a triathlon, a music festival, a bicycle night ride, a tribute event, a concert, an educational hike, a cross country 5K and 10K, and more are all on tap for a fun weekend in Northwest Indiana!

Lubeznik Center of the Arts will host an opening reception for its newest exhibitions with its monthly cultural series First Friday at Five on August 2 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. The headline exhibition in the Hyndman Gallery is “Magical Realism: Possible Not Probable” which features images that are highly-detailed and realistically-depicted but are invaded by something not quite right, or too strange to believe. During the reception, visitors will be entertained by magician James Pierce.

Taste of Michigan City Extends to Two Days
The Taste of Michigan City, August 2nd from 4pm to 10pm and August 3rd from 12pm to 10pm, will feature two days of tastes, live entertainment and of course art in the Uptown Arts District this year. The event will have food vendors lining Franklin Street both days and a range of live entertainment.

The Professional Disc Golf Association Pro World Championships will be hosted at Lemon Lake County Park and Hidden Lake Park Saturday, Aug. 3, through Saturday, Aug. 10. With the tournament, numerous special events are planned for players and the public. Special events include the FlyMart, the PDGA banquet and award ceremony at Radisson Hotel at Star Plaza and a player’s party at Lemon Lake County Park.

34th Annual Triathlon
The 34th Annual Triathlon will be held on August 3rd at Soldier’s Memorial Park in La Porte, Indiana. This USAT sanctioned event features Chip Timing and includes a 1/4 mile lake swim, 12.4 mile bike ride and 3.3 mile run. Athletes will have the opportunity to compete as individuals or as part of a team.

First Annual Front Porch Music Festival
The First Annual Front Porch Music Festival will be held on Sunday, August 4th, 2013 at Central Park in Valparaiso. The festival will run from 3 pm to 10 pm and feature many of the folks who make Front Porch what it is to the community. Other entertainment taking place during the festival includes local art, blow up rides for kids, face painint, beer garden, giveaways, and more!

Saturday, August 3rd, bring out your 2-wheelers, tricycles, or unicycles and join us for the second annual Hammond Midnight Bike Ride. Start and end at Hammond’s iconic Wolf Lake Pavilion, ride along the majestic shores of Lake Michigan , and the tranquility of both Wolf and George Lake. See firsthand, Hammond and Whiting’s spectacular parks and neighborhoods, ride through historic Downtown Whiting, pass Oil City Stadium, and cross a one of a kind bike bridge that links the two communities.

The 5th Annual Veterans Festival will take place at the South Haven American Legion Post 502 on Friday, August 2nd and Saturday, August 3rd. The festival features fireworks both evenings, IVH-VIP motorcycle run, beer garden, gaming tent, food vendors, bingo, and live music! Please join us as we welcome home VIP veterans from the Indiana Veterans' Home as our special honored guests.

CST One Night Jam Concert
American Idol Season 10 finalist Casey Abrams will be making his debut in Valparaiso on Sunday, August 4th at 7:00 pm. He will be appearing as an acoustic duo at Chicago Street, and the set will definitely include hits like "Get Out" and "Simple Life".

On Saturday, August 3, 2013, Dunes Learning Center and the National Park Service will provide visitors with an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of a historic expedition that took place 100 years ago. Dunes Learning Center ill celebrate the centennial anniversary of this expedition with a day-long tour of Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.

A cross country 5K and 10K run will take place through the trails of Lemon Lake County Park on August 4. Depending on the weather, you may get a lil’ dirty! Proceeds from the event will benefit the Cedar Lake Boys & Girls Club.
