Crochet Club at Thomas Library
Children in grades 3 and up are invited to Westchester Public Library's Crochet Club. Crochet Club will take place in the Children's Department at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, each Wednesday afternoon from 3:30-4:30 p.m. Class size is limited, so registration is required.
Attendees will learn beginning crochet from instructor Sadie Steciuch. Children are asked to bring a size G crochet hook and a skein of medium weight yarn. For more information, contact the Children's Department at Thomas Library, 926-7696.
Bookmarks at the Museum presents Divergent
Join Dennis Norman for Bookmarks at the Museum on Thursday, January 16, at 2 pm at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton. Refreshments will be served.
One of the most popular young adult trilogies today, Veronica Roth's Divergent series follows sixteen-year-old Tris Prior in a dystopian Chicago world. Society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue. Each sixteen-year-old must choose the faction to which he or she will devote his or her life. Even as she chooses, Tris' deadly secret might be her only hope to save those she loves.
Bookmarks takes place on the third Thursday of the month at the museum and on the third Friday of the month at Michigan City Public Library, 100 E. 4th St., Michigan City.
It is not necessary to read the book before attending. Books are available at both Thomas and Hageman Libraries. The Art Box Continues at Thomas Library
Westchester Public Library's drop-in craft program, The Art Box, will continue each Saturday in January during the hours of 10am-2pm. Children of all ages are welcome; parents are asked to accompany their little ones. No registration is necessary, just drop in.
Bring your imagination and take a peek into the art box to find out the project for the day – and then create it! Once a month, a guest will visit the Art Box and share special talents and ideas with the children. For more information, contact the Children's Department at Thomas Library, 926-7696.
Computer training series continues with Online Security class
Bits and Bytes will continue Thursday, January 30, from 5:30-8:30 pm at Westchester Public Library with Online Security. Attendees will meet in the Bertha Wood meeting room on the second floor of Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton. The class is free, but registration is required. The Online Security class will cover tips for online shopping and banking, protecting your computer from viruses, creating secure passwords, and how to avoid scams and spoofs. Attendees will learn about keeping children safe when using the Internet, how to conduct secure transactions, and what to do if you think your computer or information has been compromised.

Local Author at the Museum: Ellen Foster
Join Valparaiso author Ellen Foster at the Westchester Township History Museum, 700 W. Porter Avenue, Chesterton, at 2 pm on Saturday, January 18, when she presents the fourth book in her Lady Apollonia series Templar's Prophecy. Refreshments will be served.
Foster's presentation will focus on the book's 14th-century Britain setting and highlight historical conflicts arising in that time period. Her slideshow will include some wonderful images to help set the scene. Copies of the book will be available for purchase and for signing.

Poetry Appreciation Group at Thomas Library
Do you enjoy reading poetry? Do you write poetry or have you always wanted to write poetry? Westchester Public Library's Poetry Appreciation Group is for you, then! The group will meet on the second Monday of each month beginning January 13, in the Bertha Wood meeting room at Thomas Library, 200 W. Indiana Avenue, Chesterton, from 6-8 pm. Registration is not necessary; attendance is free.
Share and discuss the craft of poetry at the Poetry Appreciation Group. The group will serve as a forum for learning and discussion of the various forms and techniques of writing poems. Attendees will read and listen to poetry being read aloud by individuals among the group, including published authors' work and/or original works done by local aspiring amateur poets who may want an audience or a constructive critique.
