Most mornings before the bell rings at South Haven Elementary, you can find Ashley Stanly in her favorite place, lost in a book. Ashley can gobbles up a great story like a kid in a candy store. She says that reading lets her imagination soar.
Her teacher, Mrs. Burch, was not surprised when Ashley was the first person in the fifth grade to read one million words this school year, an accomplishment that she is very proud of but finds hard talking about with others. Her favorite kind of story is one that is full of fantasy and adventure.
She says she enjoys reading because she knows it is a great way to learn new things. When you ask her what it means to her to have reached the one million mark she says, "it means that I am working hard”.
