Chesterton High School Student Wins Double at 2015 ISAB Competition

CHS-IASB-State-Contest-Winner-2015Chesterton High School participated in the 12th Annual Indiana Association of School Broadcasting (IASB) Conference and Competition on March 9, 2015 on the campus of the University of Indianapolis.

WDSO News Director Brooke Sauter was a double winner taking first place in two of the live news events. Sauter won first in the Live Radio News Anchor and also the Live TV News Anchor events. She was one of the six finalists that were chosen from entries sent in prior to the contest. The finalists read the news live on the University of Indianapolis radio and TV stations on March 9. This is the first time that CHS has had one person participate in both contests and win first in each of the two events in the same year. The first place winners receive a plaque in the shape of the state of Indiana for each winning entry.

Sauter, a junior at Chesterton High School and has been involved with CHS radio station, WDSO, since her freshman year. She has served as WDSO News Director for the past two years and has been the host of the weekly Porter County Perspective show.

The IASB Conference/Competition is presented by UIndy’s student-staffed broadcast operations, UIndy TV and public radio station WICR-FM/HD. Nearly 750 students and instructors from 25 high schools throughout Indiana participated. The day on the university campus included workshops and discussions led by media and broadcasting professionals.

Matthew Waters is the Radio/Video teacher at CHS and is also the Station Manager for WDSO. Waters accompanied the students to Indianapolis for the Conference/Competition.
