Meals on Wheels offers volunteer opportunities delivering meals in your own community Monday through Friday. Why not join us for our June orientation/training on Tuesday, June 9, at 10:00am. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing you are making a difference in someone’s life. We are currently recruiting drivers/delivery volunteers in the Hammond and Lake Station communities. If unable to attend Tuesday another session is scheduled for Thursday, June 18 at 1:00 p.m. Seniors in your neighborhood are receiving meals and you would be helping them stay in their own homes by volunteering to help deliver their meals. Each day, volunteers assist in the delivery of more than 1,200 meals throughout Lake County. According to Joan Vith, Volunteer Manager, “volunteers are our greatest resource, and we are recruiting new volunteers in Hammond and Lake Station to help us deliver meals. We have 8 routes in Hammond and Lake Station is a large route of more than 15 clients per day. We need new volunteers to ensure deliveries are made timely.”
Interested candidates are invited to attend Volunteer Orientation and Training at the Meals on Wheels Community Room, 8446 Virginia Street in Merrillville. The session lasts one and ½ hour . Applicants will have an opportunity to tour the facility and ask questions about Meals on Wheels and the different volunteer opportunities we have available.
