The Younger Life Plaza 618 Fundraising Committee announced significant progress in the drive to secure funding for the new healthy, open-air Downtown La Porte construction project set to begin this fall. Over $130,000 of private funds have been received from parties all across the Greater La Porte Area. Many companies, individuals and service organizations have partnered with the City of La Porte to bring this new venue to life.
The project needs a total of $200,000 to construct the centrally located plaza in Historic Downtown La Porte. Younger Life Plaza 618 will feature areas to sit, relax, dine, enjoy events and entertainment, and to interact in the center of downtown. Amenities planned for the space include a water feature, tables, benches, shade structures, a live performance area, electric vehicle charging stations, and a vibrant landscape all aimed at drawing people to Downtown La Porte.
“There is great excitement within the Downtown Business District, and the City of La Porte as a whole, for the construction of this public space. This model has been proven successful in other communities and everyone is looking forward to utilizing this space in the near future,” said Downtown Coordinator Thaddeus Cutler.
The public funding campaign is ongoing and hopes to raise the additional $70,000 in the next 60 days. Interested donors have multiple ways to contribute including www.gofundme.com/plaza618 and by contacting the City of La Porte at (219) 362-0151.
