Aylesworth Elementary
Mrs. Crawford's third grade class learning about the design process and put their skills to test. The students used the 4 C's to complete the activity. The had to build the largest structure with only 15 pipe cleaners. They brainstormed, developed a plan, created the structure, and then make changes or improvements. They ran into budget cuts and had to work with only one hand. They had to communicate without voices during another obstacle.
Kyle Elementary
Kyle students and staff showed great support to kick off grades 3-5 during there upcoming weeks of Istep testing. We all celebrated in the gym to get our students excited about taking the test and doing well on it.
Myers Elementary
The second grade students at Myers Elementary School worked on a unit about birds. After studying the characteristics and facts about birds, they wrote about and made their own birds. With the help of the art teacher, they even made their own cage for their bird.
Saylor Elementary
Mrs. Reeder's 2nd grade class has been learning about butterflies in science. Last week, they talked about how butterflies help to pollinate flowers. Students did a mini lab to show how the pollen from a flower sticks to the butterfly's legs, then falls or rubs off onto a new flower. It was a great way to experience pollination.
Portage High School
Patricia Morgan from Purdue Polytechnic visited Portage High School to tell students in PLTW, Construction, and Manufacturing classes about the amazing opportunities at Purdue for those seeking an Engineering or Technology degree. Students learned that there are over 35 programs offered at the school with small class sizes and lots of hands on experiences. Graduates of this school have a 95% job placement rate with most students getting multiple job offers with handsome salaries before their senior year in college. Ms. Morgan is anxious to put students in touch with a program that they are interested in and PHS looks forward to the connections that has been made within the Polytechnic Institute at Purdue West Lafayette.
