Auditions for Towle Youth Theater Ensemble’s The Musical of Musicals, The Musical

Towle-TheaterSince 2010, the Towle Youth Theater Ensemble, or TYTE, has been entertaining audiences with productions such as the Northwest Indiana Premiere of Jason Robert Brown’s 13, Anne of Green Gables, Laughing Stock, Clue the Musical, Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up?, Runaways and the World Premiere of Mental. The next TYTE production will be The Musical of Musicals, The Musical directed by Managing Director Jeff Casey and Musical Direction by Elizabeth Tuazon.

The show will run Friday-Sunday, October 14-16. The Musical of Musicals, The Musical is a musical about musicals! In this hilarious satire of musical theatre, one story becomes five delightful musicals, each written in the distinctive style of a different master of the form, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim. The basic plot: June is an ingénue who can't pay the rent and is threatened by her evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man come to the rescue? This comic valentine to musical theatre was the longest running show in the York Theatre Company's 35-year history before moving to Off-Broadway.

Auditions will be held on Saturday, August 6 at 1:00pm at the Towle Theater; 5205 Hohman Avenue, Hammond IN. Please prepare a 32 bars from a Classic Broadway Show (ideally from one of these composers Andrew Lloyd Webber, Stephen Sondheim, Rodgers & Hammerstein, Kander & Ebb, Jerry Herman). You may be asked to read or sing from the show. Have sheet music with your measures marked in a binder for the accompanist. Song should be memorized and performed, not just sung – they are looking for singers who can act too, not just good voices. Those auditioning will be doing so for membership/participation in Towle Youth Theater Ensemble (TYTE), not necessarily a role in The Musical of Musicals, The Musical. From all of the talent selected to be in TYTE they will cast the show, assign technical, administrative, marketing duties, etc. as appropriate. The overall goal is to build a team of theater artists and leaders, not just "stars".

If you don't consider yourself an actor - set up an appointment time for an interview anyway! They believe our Ensemble structure will bring more value to the participants as well as their creative process and final production quality. Students from all over NW Indiana and Southern suburbs of Chicago are strongly encouraged to audition.
