April is here! Which means that the first bits of green will be creeping out to make their springtime appearance and we can finally shed some layers for some fun in the sun, albeit cautiously. This weekend has music from Rock n Roll to Jazz, as well as food, trivia, theater, movies, and fun for everyone! Check out this week's 10 fun things to do in Northwest Indiana!

April 6: Valparaiso University Hosts 33rd Annual Jazz Fest - Valparaiso, IN
Valparaiso University will host the 2018 Jazz Fest April 2–6 with an array of exciting performances by talented artists, including local performers as well as The Tierney Sutton Band featuring Tierney Sutton, vocals, Don Braden, composer/arranger/tenor saxophone soloist, and The Bill Boris Trio!

April 6: Portage Township YMCA Total Trivia Knockout - Portage, IN
Teams of 4 or 8 can compete, and you can theme your team!(Best costumes win a prize) There are 1st & 2nd place prizes for trivia winning teams as well as a taco dinner at 6:00pm with trivia begins at 7:30pm and additional concessions for purchase.

April 6: Popular Poetry Slam Returns to Lubeznik Center for the Arts - Michigan City, IN
Join Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) from 5:00 to 8:00pm for their annual Poetry Slam. Poets start reading at 5:30pm. Enjoy free admission, lite bites and a cash bar. LCA's Poetry Slam invites poets to showcase their works in a raucous audience-juried event. Each poet will be provided the opportunity to present one of their works. In tournament style, poets will be eliminated each round until one is left standing. It's all in good fun!

April 6: Blue Chip Presents Free Fallin: A Tribute to Tom Petty - Michigan City, IN
Free Fallin continues to perform Tom Petty’s music in the wake of his passing in October, 2017. The band has toured the country for more than 10 years, performing all the best hits of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. The show includes all the instruments and costumes that create the authentic live concert experience.

April 6 - 8: Towle Youth Theater Ensemble presents "Mandate for Murder" - Hammond, IN
The show will run Thursday-Sunday, April 5-8. Politics can be murder! It's election night and all the friends and supporters of mayoral candidate Matthew Kensington are throwing him a surprise birthday/campaign party. But there's one surprise no one suspects. An aide is found stabbed in the back with the birthday cake knife! Clues and suspects abound in this frenetic political satire that leaves the audience wondering just who they CAN trust.

April 7:  Saturday Scrappers at the Griffith Calumet Library - Griffith, IN
Join this scrapbook gathering to chat with other like-minded friends while working on your own projects - registration not required!

April 8: Footlight Players presents "Annie" - Michigan City, IN
Footlight Players will present their 5th show of their season with the award-winning family musical “Annie”. The show is directed by the award-winning Director, Robert W. Komendera and assisted by Laura Meyer. The Vocal/Music Director is Shannon Wyels with Lee Meyer at the keyboard. The cast was choreographed by Denise Barkow. Little orphan Annie (Maddi Ames) charms everyone’s hearts in 1930’s New York City! 

April 8: Purdue University Northwest presents Jewish Film Festival - Michigan City, IN
Purdue University Northwest’s (PNW) Odyssey Arts and Cultural Events Series, in cooperation with the Michigan City Public Library and the Irving Levin Jewish Cultural Fund of Sinai Temple, presents a Jewish Film Festival from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at the Michigan City Public Library, 100 E. 4th St., Michigan City.
