Staff spotlight:

At Crown Point High School, students are fortunate to have dedicated educators who go above and beyond to foster a love for learning. One such educator is Amanda Stillman, an algebra teacher who has made a significant impact on her students and the school community. Stillman's passion for teaching, commitment to her students' success, and innovative teaching methods have earned her the respect and admiration of both students and colleagues.

“Math can be an intimidating subject, especially for students who have struggled with math at an early age. In my opinion, a lot of students struggle not because they aren’t capable but because they lack confidence in themselves. I try to be as positive as possible with my students and create a culture in my classroom where students are happy and can succeed,” Stillman said.

Stillman's journey in the field of education started with a profound passion for mathematics. Her love for the subject has been a driving force throughout her life, and she is on a mission to share that enthusiasm with her students. Stillman believes that algebra is not just about solving equations – it’s a tool to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve students well throughout their lives.

“I tutored math in college, and I always enjoyed helping students who normally struggled with math. I love the challenge of making a subject that is normally difficult for students into a subject that is enjoyable for them," Stillman said.

Stillman's classroom is a hub of activity and engagement. She understands that algebra can be intimidating for some students, so she employs a variety of teaching methods to make the subject more approachable. Her interactive lessons often include real-world examples, group activities, and hands-on experiences. She encourages questions and discussions, creating an open and inclusive environment where students feel comfortable asking for help and exploring mathematical concepts.

What sets Stillman apart is her unwavering dedication to her students' success. She believes in the potential of every student and works tirelessly to ensure they understand and excel in algebra. Stillman takes the time to provide one-on-one support to struggling students and challenges advanced learners to reach their full potential. Her goal is not only to teach algebra but to empower her students with the confidence and skills they need to tackle any mathematical problem that comes their way.
