#1StudentNWI: School Begins Again at Griffith High School

GriffithHSAugust1Turning is Summer Work

Griffith offers plenty of AP, honors, and dual credit courses. Most of these courses involve plenty of summer work. Some of these courses are AP US history, AP English (11 and 12), honors English (9 and 10), and AP calculus.

For AP US history, you have to have due dates throughout the summer. Most of the AP classes have the work due on the first day of school. When the first day of school came (August 12), many students were relieved to turn in their work and know all of their summer work is turned in and complete.

“It was a weight lifted off of my shoulders after the first day of school. I had so much work to do for English honors (10). I was procrastinating at moments so getting it done and turning it in was a great feeling. I plan to take AP US history next year, even though I heard it was very difficult and a lot of work. I am up for the challenge,” said sophomore Cameron Bobos.

AP classes are there to prepare students for what is to come in college. Even though they are challenging and take a lot of time and effort, it looks great on college applications and gives students a chance to graduate with honors.

GriffithHSAugust2Fair Time in Griffith

Every year, Griffith holds “Western Days” at St. Mary’s. This year it is August 20-23. Even though school started already, that doesn't stop kids from coming out to have one last weekend full of summer fun with friends and family. There are plenty of rides and activities. This also gives students a great chance to hold fundraisers for sports, clubs, or charities.

On the last day, there’s always a big firework show at the end of the night. People gather in the field to watch them and enjoy their last summer moments at the fair.

“I enjoy going to the fair every year with my friends because it’s a lot of fun and it’s the last fair of the summer for me. I also love watching the fireworks on the last day, they never disappoint,” said junior Heather Steele.
