What’s Happened Recently
On September 4, Munster High School juniors and seniors hit the football field for Munster’s Annual Powder Puff Football game where the juniors ended up dominating and securing a sweet victory over the seniors. Although, the seniors ran some very nice plays. Senior Sara Zabrecky had a nice arm completing passes for two touchdowns. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough for the seniors to win. Instead, the juniors were the 2019 PowderPuff Champions, winning 30-18, showing they really came to play some football.
Homecoming Parade took place on September 6. All of Munster’s students were allowed to end their school day early at 12:30 to participate. The parade was filled with Munster High School’s spirit in every float. Project X, Spanish Club, PowderPuff players, Speech & Debate team, and more all joined their peers and had some Homecoming fun, Munster style of course.
One club in particular worked extremely hard to get playhouses painted prior to the homecoming parade. Student Government (CEC) class of 2021 was determined to get their playhouse completed, coming in on Labor Day while many were enjoying their holiday. The Munster High School Class of 2021 then generously donated the house from their Homecoming float to the students of St. Thomas More School.
Also, On September 6th the Munster High School’s Speech and Debate Team hosted their 52nd annual chicken dinner. This fundraiser dinner was loved by all in the community and many came out to support. The S&D team was excited to get the word out by selling chicken dinner tickets door-to-door. Many customers came to the students to purchase a great dinner and support. All proceeds are utilized to fund the students’ competitions including the largest varsity meet that will take place at Bradley University on December 7. The Director and volunteer organizer of Munster High School's Speech and Debate team was Mr. Jordan Mayer.
Teacher Spotlight
Mr. Jim Davidon is not only a devoted husband, loving father of two college students, and long-time teacher at Munster High, but he is also the head coach for the girls basketball team. He is not a stranger to starting his days early and ending them late. Recently, Coach Davidson could be found running around at the annual Youth Munster Basketball Club tryouts. The tryouts were held at MHS for girls in grades 2nd to 8th. Davidson and two of his varsity players conducted tryouts from 6-9 p.m. He continues to show just how much he cares about the program and the Munster community as a whole. MHS is extremely grateful to have Coach Jim Davidson as a continued contributor to Munster, and are looking forward to seeing him teach and coach for many more years to come.
What’s Coming Up:
Lady Mustangs are one step closer to the start of their basketball season. As they begin to prepare for their new sectional competitors which will include Munster, EC Central, Merrillville, West Side, Lake Central, Highland, and Morton. Practice officially starts October 21, with the Lady Mustangs home opener scrimmage against Merrillville on November 2 at 12 p.m.
