2012-2013 St. Paul School Advisory Council

st-paulFrom the School Advisory Council President, Scott Gerig

“The philosophy of the school room in one generation will be the philosophy of government in the next.” Abraham Lincoln

As my tenure on the Saint Paul School Advisory Council draws to a close, I find myself once again reflecting on the many blessings our school has received. Many of these blessings are due in large part to the stewardship of current and past school parents who have shared their time and talents while serving as Advisory Council members.

The Council’s primary focus is supporting the school’s mission of “work(ing) together to create a safe, caring environment, based on Christian values and service to others, that enables students to learn and develop spiritually, academically, emotionally, and physically.”

Additionally, Council activities uphold the Diocese of Gary’s dedication to:

  • Creating and celebrating an understanding of the world in the light of the Gospel and Eucharist
  • Instilling the desire for Christian service to the community
  • Encouraging social responsibility in an effort to promote peace and justice
  • Developing a Christ-like atmosphere of care and respect
  • Fostering self-esteem, leadership, and personal responsibility
  • Striving for academic excellence
  • Sharing with parents in the educational mission of the Church

My three years on the Council have provided increased opportunity to witness the Lord at work at Saint Paul. I continue to be amazed by the generous support of the parish community (that has helped the school’s balance sheet remain healthy regardless of the ongoing economic situation), by the dedication of the teachers and staff (reflected by the outstanding achievements of both current students and alumni) and by the school parents who selflessly demonstrate Christian values.

If you are also committed to the principle of providing our children with an educational environment that supports the ideals promoted by SPCS and the Diocese, I encourage you to spend the next few weeks in prayerful discernment regarding participation in this very important ministry. Please feel free to contact any current (or former) Advisory Council member. Thank you for your continuing commitment to St. Paul and for your willingness to serve on the School Advisory Council in support of our shared commitment to “Faith in Education.”
