My name is Vince Moller and I am President of Portage Pop Warner Football and Cheer Association. I would like to take a minute to address the parents of anyone who is planning on registering their child to participate in our Football or Cheer program.
First, I would sincerely like to congratulate ALL of the participants that have made the Scholastic Award list. We as an organization and as Parents we could not be prouder of you!! Great Job!!
I would like to thank all the parents that volunteered last year at our home games, both at our field and in our concession area. This was really the first year that we had the kind of involvement and support from the parents like we did. As those of you that were part of it can attest to, it is a lot of work.
Each one of our Board members put in on average of 12 hours on home game day’s and playoff weekends. The board members truly do work very hard for all the participants of our organization. As we go into the 2013 season, we will continue to need your help and volunteering to provide a great organization for your kids to play in.
As most of the Football parents have known for the past 2 years, our Football program has been in the D3 division which is a less aggressive division. In our Jr. Pee Wee and Pee Wee divisions this year, we are exploring the possibilities of putting together a D2 team in each of the divisions. D2 teams are comprised of the more advanced kids in that age group and they play at a very aggressive level. Nothing is in stone yet, but I wanted to let the parents know of the possibility of what we are exploring. I am still in talks with the high school coaching staff as to the best way to put these teams together. As a parent, I do realize that we all like to think/believe that our child is one of the better players in their age group, but there is a reality and safety factor that we need to take into account for. I just wanted to put this out for everyone’s knowledge as it may affect your decision to register your child in the Portage program.
I have received some emails from parents in towns that do not have a Pop Warner program. The national rule states that if a town/city does not offer a program, then those seeking to participate are eligible to register in the closest town of their choice regardless where they live, without requiring a waiver from the governing Association. With regards to this, Portage Pop Warner will not be accepting any nonresident participant unless we do not have enough Portage residents to place on a team. To sum it up, Portage residents will take preference on team placement first. PPW Families, If you have been a participant of Portage Pop Warner you were waivered to our city, you need not worry you will be registered as part of the city participants. This Message only applies if you are new to our Pop Warner and do not live in our city.
In closing, I would like to again let you know that if you have any questions or problems prior to registration, after registration or during the year, please feel free to talk to me in person or email me. Our entire board and I will continue to try to provide the best program for both the Football and Cheer children of Portage.
Sincerely,
Vince Moller
