Northwest Indiana – Thanks to 570 volunteers 68 projects were completed on Friday, August 9 as part of United Way’s annual Day of Caring program.
As the largest single-day volunteer event in Northwest Indiana, Day of Caring brings together residents and businesses to support their community by helping area nonprofits with tasks they would not otherwise be able to do.
“We are so grateful to our volunteers for jumping in to help out,” said Kim Olesker, president and CEO of United Way of Porter County. “Hands-on teamwork activities like these really show you how amazing our community is at banding together to meet the needs of others.”
More than 34 nonprofits across the Region were supported by this effort. Projects included landscaping, painting, building, hosting client picnics, collection drives and more.
The day kicked off with a free breakfast rally in Valparaiso and Portage, sponsored by The Times Media Company and 2019 Pacesetters CSI, Meijer, Chester, Inc., McAfee Animal Hospital, Hoeppner, Wagner & Evans, LLP, and Blachly, Tabor, Bozik & Hartman. The United Way Pacesetters initiative provides an easy one-stop shop for corporations to give back to their community.
