A dining experience to remember: a Patrick’s Grille taste test

If you are looking for a dining experience beyond a simple meal when going out, head over to Patrick’s Grille in Michigan City for delicious food and a modern atmosphere. The restaurant sets the tone for an upscale dining experience with 3D cityscape decor, blue flame features built into the walls, dark mood lighting, tables set with black tablecloths and glowing candles, and central bar seating.

Part of what makes a visit to Patrick’s Grille a dining experience is its menu, which changes on a weekly basis. During my most recent visit to Patrick’s Grille, I took advantage of its ever-changing menu to order a meal you can’t find at a casual restaurant.

I started with the raspberry tea, which had the perfect amount of syrup to ensure the flavor came through without being overly sweet. I then moved on to the menu of shareables, ordering the Mushroom & Crab Rockefeller. This shareable dish features a large mushroom topped with crab cake hollandaise sauce. The Mushroom & Crab Rockefeller was the perfect, savory start to my meal, and I could taste just how fresh the ingredients were. This shareable is a smaller dish, but it can be split between two people and help you leave room for the rest of your meal.

The waitress did not keep me waiting after the shareable, bringing out complimentary bread and butter along with my appetizer as she took my order for the entreé. The bread was fresh, airy, and soft and the butter was easy to spread. My appetizer, the soup du jour, was a classic potato soup with cheese, carrots, and bacon.

For my main course, I chose the Canadian Lake Perch. The fish was panko-crusted and sautéed with the most delicious lemon butter. The Canadian Lake Perch was fresh and buttery, the texture of the crust was superb, and the lemon butter took the dish to another level. Just in case you want an extra lemon on your fish, there was a beautifully wrapped lemon wedge included on the plate.

Also included on the plate was the house vegetable along with my choice of starch. The house vegetable during my visit was fresh broccoli, and I opted for the baked potato for my starch. Both sides were above average, and the potato came with sour cream and beautiful, rose-shaped butter. Both sides were also delicious with a little squeeze from the lemon wedge.

From the big details like the 3D cityscape decor and impeccable entreé to the little details like the rose-shaped butter and chocolate mints by the door, Patrick’s Grille was a dining experience to remember.
