With the fall weather upon us, many seniors are realizing that their time in high school is slowly coming to an end. For some, this realization might lead to frantic attempts to make these last few grading periods count. For one La Porte High School senior in particular, all four years have been rewarding.
Rachel Noll is the perfect example of a go-getter. The avid reader describes herself as an outgoing person, and I would have to agree. Since her start as a #1StudentNWI writer for us at Ideas in Motion, Noll has demonstrated what it means to truly be a Lifer. She is constantly looking for the next good news story to write, and her friendly personality and work ethic allow her to produce great content for us. On top of her work for the #1StudentNWI program, Noll has involved herself in many other activities.
At the age of six, Noll started playing softball, and she has been playing ever since. According to Noll, high school softball season is her favorite time of the year as many of her most important friendships have come from her involvement with the sport. Noll’s senior season will mark her third year on the varsity team.
The first baseman said, “I am looking forward to spending my senior year with great teammates and hopefully having a successful postseason.”
Noll’s athleticism does not stop once she leaves the softball field, though. Since her freshman year, intramural volleyball has been a fun extracurricular activity for Noll. With her team winning the championship last year, Noll is hoping for similar success to cap off her high school intramural career.
“I played volleyball until eighth grade, so it’s nice to still be able to be involved with it on a non-competitive level,” said Noll. “It is just a laid-back, fun activity that I love to take part in.”
Noll shines in the classroom as well. As a member of National Honor Society, Noll will complete at least 25 hours of community service. Her acceptance into NHS was based off of academic prestige. Noll said that she enjoys be a part of something “so important.”
Though Noll certainly has a busy, stimulating schedule each day, her favorite part of her routine is her involvement with the LPHS newspaper. Two years ago, Noll was accepted into the class, and she has been a valuable asset ever since. This year, Noll is serving as Co-Editor-in-Chief.
Each week, Noll and her staff write articles that are posted on Friday or Monday. She not only writes her own articles, but also posts all of the staff members’ work to their website.
“This class is my favorite part of school, and it is one reason I have developed a love for writing,” said Noll. “I have learned so much these past two years from my teacher Ms. Parker, and I have also made some incredible friends.”
With a recent acceptance to Indiana University Bloomington, Noll said that there is a 99% chance that she will attend the school in the fall. She loves the campus and all the opportunities Indiana University has to offer. She plans to study journalism.
