A Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight: Linda Rosas

Linda Rosas was recognized as a rising star by the Crossroads Chamber for her exceptional work as an administrative manager with the Town of Merrillville. She was nominated at the Annual Business Excellence Awards Ceremony in which numerous business leaders and community influencers were honored.

This prestigious event celebrated Rosas' remarkable accomplishments in her community and contributions that have made a significant impact on the Northwest Indiana region.

Rosas was left in disbelief upon being announced as a nominee for the award. However, she has grown to realize that her work has made a meaningful impact in Merrillville, and that gives her a profound sense of happiness.

“I was embarrassed and shocked as I didn't expect to even be nominated,” said Rosas. “I was humbled yet honored. Often in public service, you don't get recognized for your achievements, so it made me feel amazing.”

Rosas’ love for the community of Merrillville is shown in her every action. She feels she owes her achievements to the community as it played a pivotal role in helping her navigate through difficult past experiences.

“This community saved me and my children's lives,” said Rosas. ”I feel like I'm obligated to serve them and try to make the community better and closer than it has been in previous years. When I moved to Merrillville in 2008 from Texas, I decided that I had to make a better life for my children.”

Co-workers and community members took the initiative to welcome Rosas to Merrillville. Their support extended beyond small gestures to ensure she would thrive in her new home.

“The Merrillville community found me a full-time job with the Town of Merrillville," said Rosas. “The community also helped me with my children, paid some of my bills, and provided me with food. I love it here, and I feel like I owe the residents of Merrillville for the life I have now.”

Rosas' involvement in numerous projects, where she either took charge or offered her assistance, paved the way for her being awarded.

“The main project I helped lead was the annual job fair, which was previously started by my manager from Hammond,” said Rosas. “We also brought back the Fourth of July parade and the tree lighting. We are trying to beautify the town as much as we can, and it starts with my involvement with the community.”

Rosas is driven to be an advocate for an overall positive community. She tries to uplift and empower those around her and hopes to create an environment where everyone can thrive and succeed.

“I hope my commitments have positively impacted the community,” said Rosas. “I hope that people are seeking each other's trust again. Also, my interactions with the community, Crossroads, and the Town of Merrillville are at least impacting some people to spread the word and reach out.”

Despite her achievements, Rosas feels there's still room for professional growth. She's committed to further developing her expertise to make an even greater impact.

“I'm still trying to learn how to balance my professional responsibilities,” said Rosas. “The more I move forward in my career and the community, the better I get to know myself. Since I've gotten involved with the town, I feel like it's made me grow personally and professionally.”

The future for Rosas entails her retiring from the Town of Merrillville in the next 20 years. Her goals and aspirations revolve around creating a sense of togetherness, equality, and inclusion within the community.
