A Northwest Indiana Life in the Spotlight: Taki Floutsis

For Taki Floutsis, education advocacy is not just a profession — it’s a personal journey. As the Regional Organizing Director for My School Options, Floutsis is dedicated to helping Hoosiers navigate Indiana’s educational landscape, ensuring that every child has access to a school that best suits their needs.

Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, Floutsis and his family left the desert for the fields of Northwest Indiana when he was 7 years old in pursuit of a faith-based education, which proved to be more of a challenge than expected. Having been homeschooled from kindergarten through high school, Floutsis experienced the limitations of Indiana’s school voucher program firsthand.

“I didn’t realize it then, but I had a school choice story,” Floutsis said. “Looking back, I can see how much my parents sacrificed to give me the education they believed was best for me. I knew I wanted to give the same care and attention to others.”

Having found faith and committed his life to the Lord at a young age, Floutsis did just that. In addition to serving as a leader in both the children's and the youth ministry, Floutsis attended a missions college in Cambodia through his church where his eyes were opened to the blessing it was to live in America and the multitude of opportunities present.

“My faith has driven me like nothing else. Faith was — and always will be — the center of everything I do,” Floutsis said. “It’s not just about never taking anything for granted and believing something; it’s about taking action and serving others for the greater good.”

Faith has and continues to shape Floutsis’ life both professionally and personally. In 2020, amid the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Floutsis found himself miraculously reconnected with Lillian, a longtime friend and fellow missionary.

“We had known each other for years, but the timing was never right,” Floutsis said. “COVID changed everything. She came back, we reconnected, and now she’s my beautiful, loving wife, best friend, and hero.”

The two married in 2022, and their shared passion for service and faith continues to inspire Floutsis’ work today.

“I wanted to be a voice for those who didn’t have one,” Floutsis said. “I believed God had a purpose for me, and I wanted to pursue it. It wasn’t just about believing something — it was about taking action and serving others. My faith has shaped everything I do. I want to serve my community in the best way possible, and I believe helping families access quality education is one of the greatest ways to do that.”

Helping families navigate the complicated labyrinth that is education is exactly what Floutsis does through My School Options, a life-affirming position he began in early 2023.

“I love that every day is different. One day, I’m at a networking event, and the next, I’m talking to parents who had no idea they had more options for their children’s education. Indiana is one of the best states for school choice, but many families don’t know their options. If there’s one thing I want parents to hear, it’s that there’s hope. There’s a school out there that’s the right fit for their child,” Floutsis said. “We’re here to help families find it and make the whole process easier and hopefully enjoyable.”

Floutsis thanks his youth pastor Aaron Brown for his unwavering love and support over the years along with his wife and their son, William, whose encouragement and inspiration drive him to strive for success each day.
