A Portage Life in the Spotlight: Matt Bliss

PLTM-Bliss-1Matt Bliss is no stranger to a busy schedule. Bliss is currently a high-achieving Junior at Portage High School. Serving on a multitude of clubs, organizations, and sport teams is definitely not an easy task.

Balancing his superb grades, involvement with numerous clubs and organizations, and spot on the golf team is a tremendous challenge.

“I try to balance all of my activities by working ahead, spreading out assignments, and not stressing myself out too much about it,” Bliss said.

PLTM-Bliss-2Bliss is currently involved with theatre, academic teams, National Honor Society, Student Council, the golf team, and Natural Helpers. Along with these involvements, he has maintained excellent grades.

Bliss has had many accomplishments in his high school career. Some of these accomplishments are winning the Student Council President election, getting the lead role in the Fall Play, being at the top of his class, and being able to attend natural helpers. All of these accomplishments together make him a true model student.

Recently Bliss won the Student Council President election. He has many ideas and goals in store for next year’s Student Council. He hopes to incorporate more student involved events and giving back to the community for next year’s Student Council. The ambitious drive shown by Bliss should allow him to lead Portage High School’s Student Council to greatness.

PLTM-Bliss-3“I think that I would like to focus more on the service aspect of Student Council. However that takes money, so I am also willing to engage in fundraising activities that will be more active by nature to not only make the student council fund grow, but do it in a fun way and at the same time be able to help people or teach them something they will remember forever,” Bliss said.

Bliss’ goals do not end at high school. He hopes to become a biological and agricultural engineer.

“As of right now, I want to become a biological and agricultural engineer and put a stop to the horrors that genetically modified food does to our health,” Bliss said.

Bliss believes that the Portage community is very unique and many things can be learned from living here. When asked why Portage is special compared to other communities he responded with, “The diversity of the students is what makes Portage special. All different backgrounds of race, color, ethnicity, and income all come into play and you have to learn to interact with people from all walks of life, just like the real world.”

Many can say that Bliss is a hardworking, ambitious, and caring individual. All of the accomplishments just made in high school will reflect to the accomplishments he will make after. His ability to set and execute goals makes him a very important asset to Portage High School. We can expect many big things from Matt Bliss in the future.
