A Valpo Life in the Spotlight: Carolyn Moore

Carolyn Moore owns and runs Point 2 Point Counseling in Valparaiso. Outside of counseling, she volunteers, serves on multiple boards, and spends time with her husband and children. She and her family have lived in Valparaiso for 19 years.

Moore began Point 2 Point in September 2018 and transitioned to full-time at the beginning of 2019. Her office was originally within her local church, but she has since moved to her own space. Using the space in the church allowed her to use part of her time offering pro bono counseling services in order to fill a gap that was much needed within her church.

“The story of Point 2 Point counseling is really a beautiful story of God leading me in a journey of obedience and learning to surrender my own plans, comforts, and fears of my limitations into what God had been shaping me for my entire life,” Moore said.

Moore sees Point 2 Point as the path that God gave her in order to better the world. So far, she has worked with and helped 130 clients. Her services are not exclusively based on faith, but her personal philosophy is that your mind, body, and spirit all work together, and if one suffers, so will the rest.

One of her main goals with Point 2 Point is to provide Christian clinical mental health services within churches all across the region. There are empty spaces within churches that Moore would love to put a licensed professional in. She would love to see other like-minded therapists who are connected to a local church help meet the needs of the community.

“Point 2 Point is a convergence of what God had prepared me for through my education and experience in mental health counseling. My desire is to utilize my ability to help others feel heard and understand their pain, hurt, and fears, and ultimately pointing people to the cross. The cross is a place of spiritual and eternal hope for the future that can help people cut through the mess of the physical and emotional pain of the past.”

Moore is active in many other circles. She currently serves on two non-profit boards. She is President of her neighborhood’s home owner’s association. She also serves on the board of Reach Out Ministries, USA, a mission organization that brings school supplies and tutoring to children in Guatemala and Columbia. Moore also hosted a local women’s conference in 2018, has participated in walks with Autism Speaks, is active in her Bible Study, and has led them from time to time

Her family is also very important to her. Moore’s husband is Head Coach of Track and Field at Valparaiso University, and her children are very active as well. Her daughter is 10 and her son is 12. They play volleyball and basketball respectively.

The family enjoys being active, hiking, traveling, visiting friends and family, and camping. The family loves being at the beach and vacationing in tropical areas. Their favorites being Aruba and Kiawah Island, where Moore and her husband were married in 2003. They bought a camper within the past year, and are excited to take some time off and to explore more of the country using their camper this summer.
