On Wednesday, September 25, the Lake Central High School Advanced Drama class hosted an improv show, all to raise money for Polycystic Kidney Disease.
“I talked to Mrs. Neth [the teacher] about having the fundraiser and she supported it 100 percent,” Junior Jessica Sellers said.
Each year, the Advanced Drama students put on numerous improv shows for part of their grade. For some shows, troupe will donate the proceeds to a designated charity, such as Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and Trick-or-Treat so Kids Can Eat. Wednesday’s fundraiser raised $266 for the PKD Foundation, which fights for a cure to the disease that affects so many.
Although PKD can be a grim disease, the night was filled with laughs from students and parents alike as some of Lake Central’s best actors put their wits to the test.
“I feel the audience got plenty of laughs, and we all had a great time performing,” Sellers said. “Also, the amount of money we raised was incredible.”
With more months and more shows left in the year, students are looking forward to what is to come.
“I’m looking forward to more people attending our shows and our games to improve and be funny,” Sophomore Brett Balicki said.
As with any activity, more practice can only bring improvement. The group’s teacher, Pam Neth, believes that tonight was just a precursor to what’s in store for this year.
“I think it went excellent. It’s one of the best improv shows I’ve seen in years, so I feel like the program is really making a comeback,” Advanced Drama teacher Pam Neth said.
The group’s next improv show will be hosted in Lake Central’s LGI Room on Oct. 9.
