Andrean Firmly Holds On to Top Spot in RSN Poll

Andrean-FB-2014With their second win in a No.1-No. 2 match-up in four weeks this season, Andrean High School was the obvious choice to remain in the top spot in the Region Sports Network's weekly prep football poll. The 59ers are coming off a 24-20 come-from-behind win over visiting Munster, who held on to the second slot despite the loss. See complete RSN Top Ten.

"There’s no better word to describe the 59ers this week than resilient. Most teams would’ve lost a game like the one against Munster on Friday, but somehow, someway Andrean came away with a win – the sign of a true champion," the RSN wrote this week on Andrean.

Munster stays at No. 2 because they "actually outplayed one of the best teams in the state for a majority of the game and definitely showed they belong up here with the Region elite."

Lake Central, coming off an impressive road win in Crown Point last week, is No. 3.

"Is their anything Antwan Davis can’t do? One of the top receivers in the Region, the senior threw a touchdown pass and had a key interception that helped ice the win over CP. LC’s going to look for more of that magic moving forward as the Indians are trying to win their first DAC title since 2011," the RSN wrote on the Indians.

Undefeated Morton and the Bulldogs round out the top five this week.

One of the more interesting teams this year is Rensselar Central, who comes in at No. 6 with a 4-0 record. Not only have the Bombers been winning games, they have done it in blowout fashion with high-scoring totals. RC has totaled 60, 65, 68 and 77 points in their four games this season. Last week they earned a 77-0 shutout over Tipton.

"With an offense that doesn’t stop and a defense that doesn’t bend, the next question you’ll be asking is 'Who is going to beat this team?',” the RSN wrote on RC.

Despite a win at Portage, Merrillville drops to No. 7 in the poll. Whiting remains at No. 8 after upping their record to 4-0 following a 27-10 win over Wheeler last week.

The newcomers to the top ten are No. 9 Kankakee Valley and No. 10 Chesterton. KV has won three in a row after an opening loss to RC, while the Trojans are back on track with back-to-back wins over Duneland Athletic Conference foes Michigan City and La Porte.
