St. Mary Medical Center and the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter will present the Alzheimer’s Symposium on Thursday, September 20, 2012. The symposium will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm at St. Mary Medical Center in the West Patient Tower Auditorium at 1500 S. Lake Park Ave. in Hobart. Vendors’ booths will be open from 4-6 pm and presentations will begin at 6 pm.
Presentations will offer attendees the chance to learn about the disease. Neurologist Mark Simaga, M.D., on staff at St. Mary Medical Center, will talk about the causes, diagnosis and treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. A discussion of common legal issues faced by families of Alzheimer’s patients will be presented by Attorney Bill Green. Focusing in elder law, Attorney Green will discuss the basics of getting financial and legal obligations in order at the onset of Alzheimer’s disease.
Vendors from companies will offer information about the services available locally for those dealing with Alzheimer’s disease, for caregivers and those in the very early state of the disease. Guests can learn about the medical and legal issues surrounding an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and find help and resources for families and loved ones.
The Alzheimer’s Symposium is free. Attendees should enter through the West Patient Tower Entrance on the west side of the hospital. Please register by calling 219-836-3477 or toll-free 866-836-3477.
