Bicycle Safety Day to Teach Kids the Rules of the Road

Fire-Bicycle-Safety-2012Portage Fire Department with support from Portage Kiwanis, Porter Hospital, and Portage Firefighters Local 3151 will be hosting a Bicycle Safety Day to promote bicycle and general safety. The event will be June 29, 2013 at Willowcreek Middle School in the East Parking Lot, 5962 Central Avenue and will run from 9-12.

We hope to teach kids how important safety equipment can be and that wearing a helmet and other safety equipment can prevent debilitating injuries.

Portage Fire Department will be giving a free bicycle helmet to all children while supplies last. Other event activities include: Showing how to perform a bicycle maintenance check, registering your bicycle in case it is stolen, and learning the “Rules of the Road” while riding your bike through an obstacle course. We encourage participants to bring their bicycle to the event.

If anyone has any questions, please contact the Portage Fire Department Administration at 762-7404 Mon. thru Fri. 8a.m.-4:30p.m.
