bgcpoco-portage-kiwanis-shoe-driveThe South Haven and Portage Units of the Boys and Girls Club of Porter County have joined Portage Kiwanis Club in collecting unwanted shoes to raise funds in support of Riley Children’s Hospital and Portage Kiwanis Club.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.

The South Haven Unit of the Boys & Girls Club has collected over 100 pairs of shoes in just a couple weeks and club member families are still giving. The Portage Unit has just recently joined the shoe drive and hopes to bring in many pairs of shoes, as well.

Community members and businesses can drop off gently worn and unwanted shoes at Members Advantage Credit Union (6170 US Highway 6, Portage), the Portage Township YMCA (3100 Willowcreek Road), Dream Big Gymnastics (6575 Daniel Burnham Drive Suite E) or to any Portage Kiwanis Club member.

“We’ve collected 108 bags (25 pairs of shoes per bag) of shoes so far…” states Cathy Reed, project co-chair, “…and we hope to reach our goal of 300 bags by December 15th”. For more information, contact Cathy Reed at 219-510-2702 or visit www.facebook.com/Portage-Kiwanis.
