The EDCMC and Goodwill Industries of Michiana are partnering to provide certification programs for digital skill building.

The online courses will be offered throughout the year for the following: Facebook Social Media Marketing Certification, Google IT Support Professional Certificate, Google Project Management, Google Data Analytics, Google UX Design and self-paced Google IT Automation with Python.

The next round of programs will begin on March 28 with the application deadline set for March 11. The courses run either 10 weeks or 20 weeks and most include group classes, independent study hours, check-ins with a course mentor and a group orientation. For example, the Facebook Social Media Marketing Certification can help participants learn about content development and management, brand management, optimizing campaigns and Facebook ad fundamentals.

“Our goal is to help members of our communities earn stackable certificates in these high-demand career fields," said Debie Coble, president & CEO, Goodwill Industries of Michiana Inc. “Since the coursework is hosted online through Coursera, these programs are also great for busy professionals who want to increase their skills to advance their careers.”

“As job market demands continue to pivot and shift, we understand the importance of acquiring and sharpening skills essential to our online and tech-focused lives,” said Economic Development Corporation Michigan City Executive Director Clarence Hulse. “We are here to help our workforce develop needed skills to keep our region marketable for new and existing businesses.”

Coble said the programs are one avenue for Goodwill to impact individuals in the community.

“At Goodwill, we are known for assisting individuals overcome barriers to education and employment. We do this by providing wrap-around services that focus not only on the education itself, but also on overcoming other life obstacles,” she said. “We help students complete coursework through regular contact, creation of goals and learning good study habits.

“We also provide job placement services that may include a work experience opportunity or direct placement in permanent employment.”
