The event showcased music, food trucks, and performances from comedians Shawn Reynolds and Marty Simpson. Crown Point Mayor Pete Land believes that tonight served as an opportunity for people in the area to have an enjoyable experience with friends and family, along with meeting new faces.

“Part of attending an event at Bulldog Park is not only to watch the fantastic entertainment but also to help people come together in the community,” Land said.

Land says that the Parks-Athletics-Communications-Entertainment (PACE) Department works to prepare all of the city’s events throughout the year. He echoed that tonight’s event would not have been possible without the support of his team, as they worked to create various stellar experiences for the attendees.

“We've continued to expand the types of shows that we bring into the park,” Land said. “We know that different people like different types of entertainment. It’s another way of continuing to provide top-notch amenities for our residents.”

Gates opened for the event at 6 p.m., two hours before the main acts began. In the meantime, early residents were treated to pizza, drinks, and sweets. Additionally, the dance party was in full effect in the early hours.

“It’s just nice to see the City of Crown Point put together something really cool, from the food to the music,” Joe Soltis, Crown Point Resident, said. “It’s a great venue. This is my first time here and it won’t be the last.”

Soltis’ son, Joey, was most excited about the opportunity to dance. He wore his Elvis Presley shirt and put on an array of dance moves prior to the show.

Cindy Iori is a Schererville resident that often comes to experience the events put on by the City of Crown Point. She believes that an event like “Laughs On Point” helps people lay back and come together through shared laughter.

“It’s a gorgeous night,” Iori said. “I’m just happy that I get the chance to enjoy the venue and listen to a lot of funny jokes. I think comedy brings a lot of people together because we all love to joke around every once in a while. This has been a great way to start the weekend.”

When it came to the show, there were many fans of Reynolds and Simpson in attendance. The comedians had family-friendly acts that everyone could appreciate. Suzanna VanCleef is one person who came for the laughs. She thinks that the comedians help create an atmosphere that allows people to focus on having a positive experience.

“Getting a chance to meet new people that you probably never knew and a fun night out makes it a great time,” VanCleef said. “I think the people who came out today are looking to make memories in a positive light rather than focusing on negativity and other nonsense.”

According to Land, the comedy show was brought in last year as another way to help grow the community. The City of Crown Point is always committed to looking at new ideas to generate extraordinary experiences for the people in their town.
