Crown Point High School Theatre Brings the Laughs With “Rumors”

Crown Point High School Theatre proudly presents Neil Simon’s “Rumors,” directed by Kit Degenhart, with shows on 11/12, 11/13, 11/19, and 11/20. Each performance starts at 7 and is presented through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals Inc, New York, NY.

“Rumors” is a farcical comedy set in the 1980s about a dinner party gone wrong, with the attendees trying to figure out how to tell each other about something no one really knows actually happened. Degenhart appreciates the humor as well as the complexities of the play and knows how much the audience really enjoys the combination as well.

“While I love the ridiculous slapstick and silly comedy of ‘Rumors’, I do appreciate the unique characters that are involved in complicated relationships that are the foundation of this timeless comedy.  If you need a play that allows you to laugh a ton and escape to the late 1980s, ‘Rumors’ foots the bill,” Degenhart said.

This is Degenhart’s third time directing this show at Crown Point High School, with the first time being in 2000, then again in 2008. This presentation will likely be his last time. He credits his love of Neil Simon for the repeated shows.

“I love Neil Simon!  I love his plays, specifically ‘Rumors!’  He is an American icon,” Degenhart said.

Isabella Di Fabio, who was on the publicity crew, is excited for the outcome of the production after working hard to get the word out.

“We got a lot of ads this year and we got business to put [the flyers] up in their front windows,” Di Fabio said.

Leo Silberhorn is no stranger to the theatre. She first appeared in the ensemble of the Spring 2019 production. After that, she started on the crew, where she’s been since. She’s most excited about watching the cast bring their characters to life.

“I’m excited to see the cast do more on stage and see what else they do to make it even better because they have so much potential. They really are their characters,” Silberhorn said.

Through her involvement in productions at Crown Point High School, Silberhorn feels confident to carry on with fine arts.

“The Fine Arts program here has really made me feel so much more passionate for art and it’s really made me grow so much. I would not be the person I am today without it. I truly believe that,” Silberhorn said.

On the costume designing side of things, Wrenn Pickering had such a great time working on the actor’s costumes and makeup that she’s looking forward to trying out for the next production.

“Definitely, as a customer, artist, or anything really,” Pickering said.
