The City of Crown Point will kick off spring at the end of this month with a celebration to honor Arbor Day.
At 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, the City of Crown Point will host an Arbor Day Ceremony at Kaiser Park, located along South Main Street near Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School. Mayor Pete Land will read an Arbor Day proclamation, and there will be a ceremonial tree planting.
The City of Crown Point has been a proud Tree City USA Community for 20 years and is one of 10 municipalities recognized as a Tree City community in Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties.
Immediately following the ceremony, city staff and volunteers will convene for the city’s third annual Spring Clean-up Day from 3-5 p.m. at the Crown Point Sportsplex, located at 1313 E. North St. Gloves, garbage bags and grabbers will be provided. Volunteers should dress in comfortable clothing and shoes they don’t mind getting dirty.
Last year, the City had approximately 25 participants at its second Spring Clean-up Day. Volunteers collected 25-30 industrial-size garbage bags of trash over a 5-mile radius across the city, including, but not limited to, parks, neighborhoods, drainage ditches, behind businesses and the side of well traveled roads.
Those interested in volunteering should contact Spring Clean-up Day Coordinator Heather Evans at hevans@crownpoint.in.gov.
