Daisy and Petals award recipients announced at Northwest Health – La Porte

Northwest Health – La Porte honored two caregivers in June. Melinda Wolter, BSN, RN, was the recipient of the DAISY award for exceptional nursing and Cheryl Clobridge, a certified nursing assistant, was the recipient of the PETALS award for outstanding support professionals.

Wolter, an IMCU nurse, was nominated by a patient’s spouse who wrote to thank and acknowledge her for her compassionate care and attentiveness during their husband’s recent stay. She shared that Wolter is an exceptional nurse and never hesitated to get answers to their questions or respond to her husband’s needs. She wrote, “We have never experienced a greater, loving and friendly nurse as Melinda. She made my husband’s stay seem less worrisome, hopeful and safe because she was there caring for him. She is an angel in disguise.”

Clobridge was nominated by a patient who described her as precious and wrote to thank her for making her feel safe and comfortable during her time in the hospital. She commented on how Clobridge took time to listen to her stories about her mother’s health journey and how it helped her to remain at ease. She wrote, “Please give attention to this young lady and the nurses on the team who worked so well together by sharing and caring. I was well taken care of by her.”

DAISY award recognitions honor the remarkable work nurses do every day – wherever they practice, in whatever role they serve throughout their entire careers. It was established to celebrate the extraordinary compassion that nurses, like Wolter, continually provide their patients and families.  Nurses may be nominated by employees, patients and hospital visitors.

The PETALS award honors non-nursing professionals, like Clobridge, for their exceptional skills and support.  PETALS award recipients can also be nominated by patients, visitors and employees.
