Despite the harsh reviews Hammond High has been receiving mainly due to the infamous Hammond vs. Griffith boys basketball brawl, there are countless positive actions that take place at Hammond High annually as well as new positive actions that have taken place recently.
Negative news always seem to outshine the positive bits of news, and that is downright unjust. For the past three years HHS has been making positive moments and changing for the better both internally and externally. From a new principal beginning their job at the school, to donating to the less fortunate, HHS has taken the initiative to help itself and others in the community.
A few notable examples includes the Girls’ Soccer team appearing on the Steve Harvey Show, and on April 24 there will be another St.Baldrick's event.
Though Hammond High may be far from perfect, people fail to see the progress HHS has been making over the years. There are teachers in the building not only fulfilling their job description, but also working on giving students insightful lessons and advice to change their troubled minds about the realities of the world. They are working on giving HHS a new image, to let people see everything good we have done, not just the horrible “statements” that have been made.
I’m proud to say that I go to HHS. The stigma that has been placed on our school should change, just walk into the school and see all the different types of students that are present, all the different various stories and creatives that lie in HHS. “Wildcat Country” is the place to be!
