Exciting Happenings at Saylor Elementary

It has been an exciting time here at Saylor prior to spring break. On Thursday March 11th our 5th graders participated In Math Bowl in Morgan Township. They competed as a team solving various math problems. They were the only Portage School participating. They didn't place but their teachers said they worked very hard.

Miss Callahan's 1st grade class celebrated Dr. Seuss Birthday by making dioramas of their favorite book. They will be on display in the Library.

The second graders are learning about dinosaurs and went on a dinosaur dig. The teachers placed various items in pans of dirt and they had to sift through it and mark their findings on a sheet.

The 5th graders learned about volume in Math by going through various stations with blocks to solve those problems.

We had an assembly yesterday and our Star Readers were recognized for the books they read during the 2nd Trimester. The points are earned by quizzes they take in Accelerated Reading. Teachers set goals for the students. The students pictured were the top scorers for the 2nd Trimester.
