In celebration of this holiday season, Mental Health America of Porter County (MHAPC) is expressing an attitude of gratitude. MHAPC is a small, not-for-profit business whose purpose is to promote mental wellness throughout Porter County; this is achieved through advocacy, education, resource and support services. We have been making a difference for over 50 years.
One of our services is the Open Door Social Club. This club welcomes adults with diagnosed mental illness, compliant with treatment. The purpose of Open Door Social Club is to provide positive peer to peer interactions through safe, healthy social engagements.
We would like to take this time to thank a few individuals that have helped to make recent Open Door Social Club events possible. Our November ‘Meals That Heal’ event was a huge success in large part to the dedication of Pat Jackson, her grandson, Jesse, and the Indiana Sigma Alpha Chi – ETA Chapter. Positive peer to peer interactions at club meetings depend on the kindness of individuals like those mentioned above.
Our Open Door Social Club’s Thanksgiving meal would not have had a turkey and all the fixings if it weren’t for the generous donations we received from the Jewel-Osco located in Crown Point. We would like to extend a very warm thank you to Josh Volk and Jewel-Osco for the support they have given to Open Door Social Club.
Mental Health America of Porter County offers programs that can assist individuals and families and is proud to be an agency partner of United Way of Porter County. Open Door Social Club is dedicated to providing a stigma free environment that promotes positive peer to peer interactions. If you would like to become an Open Door Social Club member or want to help support ODSC please contact Christine Pirlot, Program Director at 462-6267 or cpirlot@mhapc.org or stop by 402 E. Indiana Avenue in Valparaiso.
