Family-and-Youth-Services-Bureau-Receives-Grants-2016Family & Youth Services Bureau is a recipient of $9,900 in grant funds from the Porter County Substance Abuse Council for their Alcohol and Drug Defense Program and Strengthening Families Program. Family & Youth Services Bureau is a member of the coalition.

The Alcohol and Drug Defense Program received grants totaling $6,400 for psychoeducational substance abuse groups for youth and parents and for materials to support this program. This program was developed by FYSB in response to an expressed need by the Porter County Juvenile Probation Department. FYSB received a grant for $3,500 for their Strengthening Families program. This evidence based program, combining communal meals with counseling, has been available at FYSB since 2010.

Family and Youth Services Bureau has been in Porter County for 43 years. They provide a continuum of social services for youth and families regardless of their ability to afford these services. The agency’s coalition liaison is a members of multiple committees, helping collect data as required by state and federal agencies and helping plan programming for the Substance Abuse Council’s events throughout the year.

The Porter County Substance Abuse Council awards grants to its coalition members through a competitive application and review process. The Council has awarded almost $1.5 million in the last ten years to programs throughout the county that work to reduce substance abuse.
