The Gary Community School Corporation (GCSC) welcomed Alvin Richards as its new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). His appointment completes the leadership team roster of the school district that is now out of state control and forging ahead. Richards, a seasoned IT executive and digital transformation leader, brings over 20 years of experience in driving technology modernization, infrastructure upgrades, and digital equity initiatives in K-12 education, higher education, and government sectors.
"Effective, cutting-edge technology is a critical piece to any successful school district," said GCSC Superintendent Dr. Yvonne Stokes. "Our students and staff deserve devices and platforms that promote teaching and learning and yield measurable results in improvement. We are excited to have Mr. Richards aboard to lead this charge."
Richards has a track record of implementing innovative technology solutions that enhance student engagement, educator support, and operational efficiency. From introducing cloud-based solutions, Learning Management Systems (LMS), and Student Information Systems (SIS), to leading district-wide technology plans, his efforts have consistently empowered school districts to succeed in the modern digital learning environment. Notably, his expertise in instructional technology has helped districts streamline curriculum delivery, administrative operations, and financial workflows through data analytics and automation.
A passionate advocate for educational equity, Richards has spearheaded several initiatives to bridge the digital divide, including one-to-one device programs and the expansion of broadband access for underserved communities. He has also deployed AI-powered tools to track student performance, ensuring that every student and teacher has access to the resources needed for success. He has actively contributed to the community as a Youth Director, mentoring inner-city youth and offering technology training to help bridge workforce readiness gaps.
"I am thrilled and honored to join the Gary Community School Corporation as Chief Technology Officer," said Richards. "I look forward to collaborating with students, educators, and administrators to create a technology ecosystem that inspires learning, fosters innovation, and builds a foundation for future success. Together, we will ensure every student has the digital tools and resources they need to reach their full potential."
