On Tuesday, March 17, 2015, Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson told a crowd of business and community leaders as well as aviation enthusiasts that the Gary Air Show is ready for takeoff.
Planned for July 11-12 in the City’s scenic Marquette Park, the event is expected to attract thousands of spectators from all over Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.
“To have the Air Show back in Gary is a huge deal for us,” said Freeman-Wilson. “It will definitely be a tourist attraction but more important, an economic shot in the arm for the city and its businesses.”
Two major acts have confirmed their appearance – The United States Air Force Thunderbirds and the United States Army Golden Knights.
During the press conference, Freeman-Wilson unveiled the new Air Show logo, launched the website Gary-airshow.com and touted the social media campaign (Twitter @GaryAirshow15, Facebook: Gary Air Show) that is crafted to help spark the interest of potential attendees, vendors and sponsors.
“This is only the beginning,” said Freeman-Wilson. “We expect more talent to sign on in upcoming weeks, and we are in talks with businesses that are interested in being sponsors.”
Information for interested vendors is already on the website. Air Show organizers stated that sponsorship opportunities are available and that specific details will be shared in early April.
