Extra Mile Fitness has all the tools that one needs to get into the running game. Brand new, returning user, and veteran runners can reach their goals by utilizing the many training programs offered by the business.
A program that just concluded for the year, Ringing in Spring 5k Training Program, has had a huge turnout and been a great benefit to those who are new and novice runners. Andreana Gonzalez, took part in the program and found that she loved it.
“I was interested in getting into a group but I was not sure about joining it. I’m a stay at home mom and I wasn’t sure if it would work,” Gonzalez said. “I met Sue [Brown] at a 5k this year and she encouraged me to come to Ringing in Spring callout meeting. I found child care and I went in.”
Now Gonzalez is able to run 10 minutes straight and she has cut of six minutes from her 5k completion time.
“Being in a group hold you accountable. It pushes me to do more and everyone is so encouraging,” Gonzalez said. “The running community in general has been really encouraging.”
Sue Brown who Gonzalez mentioned earlier was a coach for the Ringing in Spring Program. Brown is a long time running coach who started out on that path with the Calumet Striders. Not only does she coach the beginners running program, but she also coaches a kids’ program during the summer months.
“I used my experience as a runner and a coach with the Striders to help with Extra Mile programs,” Brown said. “Half of our participants have never run before and the power of the group helps them. The mere idea of showing up and knowing that there is a group behind you is very helpful. It helps the coaches too as it keeps us accountable.”
Sue had the group switching from running to walking while they built up their endurance. They made their way through the eight-week program and they were all ready to dominate Ringing in Spring on race day.
Each program typically includes:
• Race Registration and Entry Fee for a specified race
• RRCA Certified Coaches to lead your training runs
• Customized running program to help you reach your goals
• Complimentary Gait Analysis at EXMI
• Tech Shirt for Race Day
• Weekly training emails
The next running program that will be offered at Extra Mile Fitness is the Brickyard 5 Mile Training Group. The Callout meeting for that is coming up on May 2, 2016. Click here to find out more!
