Girls, Boys Basketball, Gymnastics, and Wrestling All Part of Busy Weekend Action

In Friday night basketball, the Lady Indians had an awesome win on Senior Night against the Slicers winning 48-27. Tori Bliss led the Indians with 25 points. Carly Bermes and Ashley Smith played outstanding defense. The Lady Indians would like to than the students and the band for an amazing home court advantage!!! The JV team beat the LaPorte 32-22. Randi Marshall scored 9 points.

The boys on Friday night lost to LaPorte. Skyler Moss had 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tony Cheky scored 9. The JV team lost by a point 38-39. Joey Roman had 10 points for the Indians.

On Saturday night the team rebounded and beat Kankakee Valley 59-45. Skyler Moss had 22 points and 6 rebounds, Brandon Hall and Allen Barrett both scored 13 points and Tony Cheky had 7 assists. It was a good win for the Indians. The JV team lost in OT.

The Gymnastics team competed in the Merrillville Invite and won with a score of 106. The team was down points before the last event, which was beam. They overcame and posted the meets highest beam scores to win.. Mackenzie Barcilli won all-around with a new Portage Record of 37.025. She also won bars, placed 2nd on vault and beam and tied for 3rd on floor. Danielle Solis won beam with a 9.4 also a new Portage Record. She also placed 4th on vault, and 5th all-around. Lyndsey Cunningham placed 10th on floor with a 9.0. Also contributing to the team score was Val Black, Ali Johnson and Leah Streetman.

The Wrestling team brought home their 3rd Team Sectional Title in a row. 13 out of 14 wrestlers qualified for Regionals.

The boys' swim team finished 7th this weekend at the DAC conference meet (Chesterton - 496, Crown Point - 348, Lake Central - 311, Valparaiso - 269, Michigan City - 225.5, LaPorte - 199.5, Portage - 170, Merrillville - 84). Out of 39 instances of competition, the boys had lifetime bests 24 times. Top 8 finishes were turned in by: Mikey Janes, Alec Ayres, Garrett Piers, Cole Ozbolt, Alex Rosales, Kevin Elkins, Jeremy Mendoza, Pat Sobkowski, and Jacob Grimsley. Great job guys! The boys will next be competing on 2/17 for the opening night of Sectionals.
