This weekend, wrestling overtook Northwest Indiana with four Sectional meets last Saturday building a competitive bracket for Regionals.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Chesterton High School vs. Hanover Central High School

On Saturday, January 27, the Chesterton Trojans Boys Basketball team took the victory over the Hanover Wildcats 60-28. The game at Hanover started with Chesterton hitting a first quarter run of 17-2, a pace Chesterton kept throughout the game.

Region Sports Update

Congratulations to Keagen Holder of the Morgan Township Boys Basketball team for receiving the Porter County Conference M.E. Dinsmoore Mental Attitude Award. Also, congratulations to Peyton Honchar of the Morgan Township Girls Basketball team for receiving the PCC James W. Dold Mental Attitude Award in Girl's Basketball.

The Crown Point Bulldogs Boys Wrestling team won its fifth consecutive Duneland Athletic Conference Championship and its 22nd consecutive Sectional Championship. 

Ava Ziolkowski of the Crown Point Bulldogs Girls Basketball team broke the single season scoring record and became the eighth person in school history to score 1,000 points!

Shoutout to the Valparaiso Vikings Boys Basketball team who got a 62-55 victory against Munster on Saturday. 

  • Jack Smiley had 26 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds
  • KJ Avery had 8 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists
  • Caden Crowell had 8 points and 5 rebounds
  • Julian Stokes had 7 points and 4 rebounds
  • The Vikings move their win-streak to three.

Next Week in Sports

On Tuesday, January 30, the (18-4) Munster Mustangs Girls Basketball team will face the (20-4) Lake Central Indians while the (16-7) Valparaiso Vikings Girls Basketball team plays the (17-7) Chesterton Trojans in the first round of Sectionals. 

The (14-10) Crown Point Bulldogs Girls Basketball team faces the (13-10) Lowell Red Devils in the first round of Sectionals this Wednesday. 

On Thursday, February 1, Girls Swimming Sectional prelims begin as South Bend Riley, Munster, and Valparaiso all host. 

Saturday, February 3, the Boys Wrestling Regional round begins in what should be a day filled with action. Many Region athletes will be competing at Hobart or Crown Point depending on where their respective sectionals were.
