The Porter County Community Foundation was created in 1996 by a group of community leaders with a vision. They gathered in response to a challenge offered by the Lilly Endowment. Through hard work and generosity, the challenge was met and the Porter County Community Foundation was firmly established.
The Porter County Community Foundation offers donors a unique way to leave a remembrance of their life, values, and family. Donors give through the Foundation; not to the Foundation.
A donor's gift to the Foundation remains indefinitely, while the earnings are used to support a wide variety of charitable causes. In this way, a gift to the Foundation lives on as a permanent legacy which supports generations to come.
Today, the Porter County Community Foundation is one of more than 700 community foundations in the United States. It is a vital link between generous citizens and their commitment to the advancement and sustainability of the arts, human services, the environment, health care, recreational opportunities and the education of young people throughout Porter County. The Foundation's success is a tribute to the visionary citizens who created the Foundation, as well as the hundreds of donors, volunteers, committee members, and advisors whose support ensure a bright future for Porter County.
Currently the board consists of seven committees. They are as follows:
