Frontline Foundation’s Hooked on Art Festival is set to add a dash of color and family fun on Saturday, September 23. The sixth annual event held at Thomas Centennial Park will highlight live street art, music, delicious food, and interactive kid’s activities from 9-4pm.
The Festival, hosted by Frontline Foundations; a local certified substance abuse treatment center will feature live visual and musical performing art of many kinds. The event brings local communities together to celebrate art in its many forms and promote the message that family time is prevention time.
Hooked on Art is projected to feature over 40 live street artists creating unique works of art in Downtown Chesterton throughout the course of a day.
Two artists, Susan and Dave Brenner, will be on hand to create a 20x12 interactive and three-dimensional chalk art piece. Featured in chalk art festivals across the country, the Brenners create show-stopping and original works of art that invites audience participation and interaction.
“We’re excited about our artist line-up this year”, said Frontline Operations Director Derek Frazier. “Chalk artists from across the Midwest are coming to compete for cash prizes. Plus, we’ll have artists on the street creating henna tattoos, DIY tie-dye shirts, and more.”
Hooked on Art not only hopes to feed the artistic spirit but the belly, too. The Festival will feature a “Church Ladies Food Tent” with three local Porter County churches serving unique home-made meals and desserts.
“I hope everyone comes hungry! We’re blessed to have the support of St. Peter’s Church in Portage, Ogden Dunes Community Church, and Open Door Fellowship in Kouts to prepare delicious meals for sale at our Church Ladies Food Tent,” said Frontline Operations Director Derek Frazier. “Best of all, proceeds from the tent will support Frontline substance abuse treatment scholarships for men and women in our community.”
As an additional fundraiser, Frontline will sell raffle tickets for the chance to win three different prizes. The first place winner will receive a 7-night dream vacation stay at a luxury resort in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico sponsored by Lakeside Wealth Management. Second place includes one adult and one child Fat Tire Bike sponsored by Chesterton Bike Shop. Third place prize is a $250 Amazon gift card. The winners will be announced the day of the Festival at 3:30pm (winner need not be present to win).
Even though Frontline covers a serious topic – substance abuse and addiction – the Hooked on Art Festival is a family-friendly event.
“We want parents and kids to relax and have fun at our Interactive Kid’s Area,” said Frazier. “Our numerous stations and Culinary Kids activities will give children the opportunity to create inspired works of art using chalk, sand, food, and more.”
Live music will be performed by popular local artists such as Chester Brown, The Blud Brothers, Sean Cromwell from The Sure, and Frontline’s own The Salt Exchange band.
“We’re very excited to have the best musical talent in Northwest Indiana to play at Thomas Centennial Park,” said Frazier. “The Hooked on Art Festival will offer something for everyone: art lovers, foodies, children and adults.”
Festival proceeds support ongoing affordable substance abuse treatment to those in need in our community.
