Horizon Bank, headquartered in Michigan City, Indiana, is a company on the move and one that is constantly growing. Starting out in 1873 in Michigan City, when the town was a mere settlement on a sand hill, the company now has over 60 locations stretching through Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. Both Horizon Bank and Michigan City have certainly come a long way in the six generations since then, and Horizon has seen a lot of change and innovation which have made them one of Indiana’s leading financial institutions.
The first bank in Indiana to have an automobile drive-up window in 1955, and first to have an ATM in 1974, Horizon has a long history of growth. From those days until now, Horizon has been improving the quality and reach of its financial services in Indiana and elsewhere. 144 years of growth, community involvement, and change have made it the storied Indiana institution that it is today.
More recently, Horizon has merged with Lafayette Community Bank of Lafayette, Indiana, bringing their values of dedication to serving customers with all of their banking, investment, mortgage, or other financial needs to more Hoosiers. This merger was completed smoothly, much like Horizon’s acquisition of La Porte Savings Bank in 2016, which saw a seamless merger of the two largest banks in La Porte County.
“We are excited about this new partnership and look forward to providing expanded services as well as maintaining the commitment of service Lafayette Community Bank has delivered throughout the years to the community of Tippecanoe County,” said Craig M. Dwight, Horizon Bank’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
Horizon has also recently merged with Wolverine Bank in Michigan, and Central Ohio will also see the opening of a loan production office in Dublin, Ohio. Much like previous mergers, the transition for customers required little action on the part of customers and Wolverine customers continued to see the familiar and friendly faces they are used to for assistance them with their banking needs.
“Customers can now do their banking at any Horizon branch they choose in southern Michigan as well as our branches in northern and central Indiana– giving them greater access and convenience,” said Dwight. “This partnership will enable these branches to offer complementary product offerings as well as continued commitment to the local communities in the Great Lakes Bay Region.”
Horizon is a dynamic company with a proud history of serving the communities they work in, both by contributing to the betterment of those communities and by providing a strong set of customer-based values and expertise that make them a financial leader. As they continue to grow, they bring with them that 144-year history of evolution, community, and innovation that started in sandy Michigan City in 1873 and has brought them to communities across three states in 2017.
