IU Northwest Athletics Press Release: Carrothers Named CCAC Women’s Basketball Offensive Player of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

Indiana University Northwest's Jessica Carrothers (Highland, Ind.) claimed her second straight Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award, while Holy Cross College's Kayliana Hammel (New Haven, Ind.) garnered the league's defensive honors for the seven-day period ending Nov. 17, the CCAC office announced on Tuesday morning.

For the second week in a row, Carrothers proved unstoppable as she scored at a 36.5 points-per-game clip over a pair of contests, not to mention posting averages of 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.5 assists.  She also converted 24 of her 27 free-throw attempts (.889) and shot .471 from the field (24-of-51).

The junior guard scored a season-high 41 points in a 92-80 victory over Huntington University (Ind.) last Wednesday, while also producing six rebounds, five steals and four assists in the contest.  Then, on Friday, she rang up 32 points, including ten in as many attempts at the free-throw line, against NAIA No. 2-ranked Indiana Wesleyan University.  Her other numbers that day included another six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Indiana Northwest is currently 5-1 on the season.

While Carrothers was scoring at a big clip, Hammel was stopping two of the top scorers for both Goshen College (Ind.) and Bethel University (Ind.) in her games last week.  The senior guard limited a Goshen player averaging 17.0 points per game to just four points in an 86-83 victory on Wednesday night.  At the same time, she scored 13 points herself to go along with six rebounds.

Three days later, Bethel's top scorer was held 15 points below her average by Hammel, finishing with seven points in the Saints' 68-53 victory on Saturday.  In the game, Hammel produced 12 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Following its perfect 2-0 week, Holy Cross is 4-2 on the campaign.
