Indiana University Northwest’s Office of Diversity, Equity and Multicultural Affairs invites the campus and community to a film screening and director discussion of “Before They Die!” on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium, located in the Savannah Center. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the film will begin at 5:30 p.m. Additionally, an abbreviated viewing of the film will be shown on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 2 p.m. with a panel discussion to follow at 3 p.m. in the Bruce W. Bergland Auditorium.
Directed by filmmaker and social entrepreneur Reginald Turner, “Before They Die!” chronicles the pursuit of justice for the living survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot. On May 31, 1921, America’s most prosperous black community – the Greenwood area of Tulsa, known as “The Black Wall Street” – was bombed, burned, looted and destroyed in less than 18 hours during a racially motivated attack, causing the loss of more than 300 lives and displacement of more than 10,000 citizens. The film chronicles the survivors’ testimonies of the injustices and events surrounding this tragedy and their journey for justice.
